In response to the Environmental Protection Agency requirement that entities with less than 100,000 in population have National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit coverage for their storm sewer system by March 10, 2003, the Town of Middletown has an NPDES permit and we strive to uphold the following component of the permit:
Key Elements of the Program Our stormwater program has six key elements to it, these are called the six (6) minimum control measures (mcm):
Construction Site Runoff Controls
Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations
Post-Construction Runoff Controls
Public Education and Outreach
Public Involvement and Participation
What We Strive to Accomplish
Together we hope to improve the quality of stormwater runoff reaching our creeks and tributaries. Stopping pollution at its source is the most effective way to prevent harmful pollutants from being washed by stormwater runoff into our storm drains, and ultimately, our creeks and tributaries. All NPDES stormwater related documents are available at the Middletown Town Hall upon request.
